Frequently Asked Questions

What is the digital switchover? +
The UK's traditional analogue phone network (PSTN) is being retired by 31 January 2027. All voice and data services will move to digital IP-based technology. This means any services running over traditional phone lines will need to be migrated to modern alternatives.
Will my business be affected? +
If you have any analogue phone lines, PSTN, ISDN, or ADSL services, you will be affected. Additionally, many alarm systems, lifts, card machines and other equipment that use phone lines will also need updating.
What's the difference between FTTP and FTTC? +
FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) delivers fibre optic cable directly to your building, offering speeds up to 1Gbps. FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) uses fibre to a street cabinet then copper to your premises, with speeds up to 80Mbps. FTTP is faster and more reliable.
What is SoGEA? +
SoGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) is broadband without a traditional phone line. It's a good stepping stone for businesses moving away from PSTN but not yet ready for full fibre, as it removes the need for a phone line rental.
How much notice do I need? +
We recommend starting your review at least 6-12 months before you need to make changes. Some migrations, especially those involving equipment like alarms or lifts, can take time to plan and implement properly.
